Pinellas County Commissioner District 2 is on the ballot in the November 3, 2026 general election. Tim Hughes is running to represent District 2 residents — including communities across mid-county and Clearwater — with environmental policy expertise and a record of local conservation leadership.
The role
What a commissioner actually does
County Budget
Votes on the annual county budget — how your tax dollars are spent on parks, infrastructure, public works, and public services.
Environmental Permits
Reviews and approves environmental impact decisions, wetland permits, stormwater management, and conservation programs.
Community Voice
Represents District 2 residents at the county level — bringing your concerns directly to policy decisions on flooding, housing, and transportation.

Uniquely qualified
Tim has twenty years of professional experience in the Watershed Management Branch of an Environmental Management Division of a Public Works Department. He's an environmental policy leader — not a career politician. He understands the importance of state-mandated laws and how to define, develop, and implement effective policies. He knows that an effective policy depends on defining and implementing Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely (SMART) action plans — the same approach he will bring to affordable housing, flood resilience, and transportation in Pinellas County.
